About Chows
The Chow Chow, an all-purpose dog of ancient China, presents the picture of a muscular, deep-chested aristocrat with an air of inscrutable timelessness. Dignified, serious-minded, and aloof, the Chow Chow is a breed of unique delights. Chows are powerful, compactly built dogs standing as high as 20 inches at the shoulder. Their distinctive traits include a lion’s-mane ruff around the head and shoulders; a blue-black tongue; deep-set almond eyes that add to a scowling, snobbish expression; and a stiff-legged gait. Chows can have rough or smooth coats of red, black, blue, cinnamon, or cream. Owners say Chows are the cleanest of dogs: They housebreak easily, have little doggy odor, and are known to be as fastidious as cats. Well-socialized Chows are never fierce or intractable, but always refined and dignified. They are aloof with strangers and eternally loyal to loved ones. Serene and adaptable, with no special exercise needs, Chows happily take to city life.

Chow Chows are medium-sized dogs known for their muscular build and distinctive lion-like mane. Males typically stand between 19 to 22 inches tall at the shoulder while females range from 18 to 20 inches. They weigh between 45 to 70 pounds and come in various colors including black, cream, cinnamon, blue, and red. One of their most recognizable features is their blue-black tongue.Chow Chows are often described as aloof, independent, and composed. They tend to be loyal but can be reserved around strangers. This breed does not easily trust new people or other dogs; hence early socialization and training are crucial for developing a friendly demeanor. Despite their serious appearance, they can form strong bonds with family members.
Exercise Needs
Chow Chows do not require extensive physical exercise compared to other breeds. A few casual walks each day suffice for their activity needs. They prefer moderate exercise rather than vigorous activities like running or jogging. Due to their thick double coat, they do not tolerate hot or humid weather well

Their coats can be either smooth or rough and should be brushed thoroughly to prevent matting. Regular grooming also includes checking for ticks or fleas and maintaining ear, eye, tooth, and nail care
Health Issues
Common health concerns for Chow Chows include allergies, eyelid entropion (a condition where the eyelids roll inward), hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and thyroid function issues. Regular veterinary check-ups are essential for early detection of these conditions
Training Challenges
Training a Chow Chow can be challenging due to their independent nature; they may exhibit stubbornness during training sessions. Positive reinforcement methods work best alongside patience and consistency from the trainer

I cannot say enough good things about getting my puppy through chow paws. About a month ago I started looking on here for chow puppies and found a beautiful litter from a breeder, Mrs.Loreson I spoke with both her on the phone and she was great, answering all my questions. I set up an appointment to visit as soon as I could. I was 99% sure Scooter was the puppy for us but they let us visit with all the puppies in the litter including the Mother and Grandmother of the pups! He came home basically potty trained and is the most social and well behaved puppy. All of the puppies looked great, they were raised with children and their farm is beautiful! Scooter had been vet checked before we got him and passed our vet check with flying colors! I would not hesitate to get another puppy from them in the future, I am very happy with the experience.

We received our Chow, Lady, from Chow Paws Paradise. She has been such a great addition to our family. She loves being playful with the children but is also loving and enjoys cuddling next to us in the evening. She is a quick learner. Potty trained well, is a quick learner and training easily for other commands. I came across Chow Paws Paradise on google. Amelia was so wonderful with communication and accommodated well with getting Lady to us. Lady had to be flown to us and Amelia made sure everything was in order and that she would be safe on the flight to us. When she arrived Lady was in perfect health, clean, and happy. Amelia was great about answering all of our questions, getting back to us in a timely manner, and followed up with us to be sure all went well and to be sure Lady was doing well with the transition. I would recommend her and Chow Paws Paradise to anyone that wanted a healthy family pet! They are great people and wonderful to work with
